6 Days Explore Nyungwe and Lake Kivu Safari Tour : This is a 6 days explore Nyungwe and lake kivu safari tour. You will conduct a chimpanzee trek, canopy walk and a cultural tour at Banda village. You will then head to lake kivu for a boat cruise and a coffee tour and then head back to Kigali airport with a stopover at Kimironko market.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali Airport, you will be taken for a city tour to Kigali genocide memorial and Rwanda art museum. While at Kigali genocide memorial, you will explore the place and get to know it’s significance. It carries the remains of the 1994 Rwanda genocide and you will be told about what happened during that time. After touring the place, you will be transferred to Rwanda art museum where you will take a look at the various art pieces that are kept here which showcase the history, traditions and culture of Rwanda. These art pieces are designed by the artists in Rwanda and after having that wonderful experience, you will be taken to a hotel in Kigali for lunch.
A guide will then transfer you to Nyungwe National Park after the lunch meal. At Nyungwe National Park, you will arrive at the park headquarters and you head to a hotel where you will stay. At the hotel, you will be provided with dinner and you retire to bed.

Day 2 : Chimpanzee trekking and a canopy walk
In the morning when you rise from bed, you will have an early morning breakfast and you will head to the park headquarters with the guide. The park wardens will brief you on a chimpanzee trek and how to go about it. You will be allocated a ranger guide to escort you. You will head to the forest to find the chimpanzees and it may take you about 5 hours or even more depending on their location. You will get to see other wildlife species like animals and birds while trekking in the forest. You will be awarded with one hour to stay with the chimpanzees and then also gather information about them from the guide. You will have moments with them and take pictures. The guide will then transfer you to the lodge for lunch.
A guide will transfer you back to the headquarters after having lunch and you will be briefed again. After the briefing, you will conduct a canopy walk at the suspended bridge that is approximately 70m high and 160m long. This gives you the opportunity to see various ecosystems at Nyungwe National Park and you will also have views of Nyungwe forest from the top. The guide will transfer you to the lodge after the 2 hours canopy walk. You will later have dinner and retire to bed.
Day 3 : Cultural tour
After having breakfast in the morning, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for briefing by the guide. You will be briefed about a cultural tour and you will set off with the guide to Banda village. This village is positioned at the heart of Nyungwe National Park and you will have an encounter with the locals there who will tell you about their culture, traditions and history. You will get to be entertained by them by performing for you their cultural dance. The guide will then transfer you back to the lodge and you have lunch. After lunch, you will have some rest. Later in the evening, you will have dinner and retire to bed.
Day 4 : Transfer to lake kivu for a boat cruise
You will have breakfast in the morning and you will link up with the guide after checking out of the lodge. The guide will transfer you to lake kivu. Before conducting a boat cruise at lake kivu, you will first have lunch at the hotel where you will spend the night. Then later you will be briefed and you head for a boat cruise at lake kivu. The boat cruise takes about 2 hours and you will get to see the various islands on this lake plus the wildlife that resides there. You will get an encounter with various wildlife species that the guide will give you information about. The guide will then transfer you back to the hotel and you settle in. You will then be given dinner in the evening and you retire to bed.

Day 5 : Coffee tour
You will have breakfast on the second last day of the safari and the guide will pick you from the hotel at kivu and transfer you for briefing. You will then set off with a guide from Gisenyi to Nyamirundi Island to conduct a coffee tour. At this island you will learn a number of things about coffee like coffee roasting and other coffee making processes. You will then head back with the guide to the hotel, have lunch and spend the rest of the day resting till dinner time. After dinner, you will retire to bed.
Day 6 : Depart to Kigali airport
On the last day of the tour, you will have breakfast at the hotel, you will then be picked by the guide from the hotel after checking out. You will then embark on the journey back to Kigali airport. You will have a stopover over at Kimironko market and get to greet with the locals there and buy a number of souvenirs of your choice.
