5 days Nyungwe and kahuzi biega safari is one if the trips that you will conduct in Rwanda and Congo with a visit to Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda for a canopy walk and Chimpanzee trek. In Congo, you will have a lowland gorilla trek at kahuzi biega and then head back to Kigali.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1 : Pick up from Kigali airport and transfer to Nyungwe National Park
A guide will meet you on day 1 at Kigali Airport and you will interact briefly and greet each other. You will then embark on a journey to Rwanda art museum for a tour around. At this museum, you will see a number of paintings and sculptures. These art pieces showcase a lot of details about Rwanda which include its history, culture and traditions. A guide will inform you about all the details at Rwanda art museum and then the guide will take you to another location.
You will head to kandt house museum and you will also get to tour around this amazing place. This place will grant you the opportunity to see a number of exhibits which are both historical and natural items that bring out the history of Rwanda and it’s traditions. You will then head for lunch at a hotel in Kigali. After the meal, a guide will transfer you to Nyungwe National Park and you get an accommodation where you will rest for the night. You will be served dinner at the lodge that you will settle in and after you will go to bed for your night rest.

Day 2 : Chimpanzee trekking and a canopy walk
On day 2 of the 5 days Nyungwe and kahuzi biega safari, you will have breakfast at the lodge and the guide will transfer you to the park headquarters and you will meet with the park wardens who will brief you about what, how and when to carry out a chimpanzee trek. You will then be given a guide who will lead the way to Nyungwe forest of and you start the chimpanzee trek. The trek takes a number of hours depending on where the chimpanzees ate and it may roughly be 5 hours that you may take to find them. After finding them, you will stay for an hour with them and the guide will also tell you how to behave when you are with them. He will give you details about them and thereafter, you will head back to lodge where you will eat your lunch. Once the lunch is done, you will stay at the lodge for sometime while resting.
After having some rest, the guide will pick you from the lodge and you will head for briefing at the Park headquarters. You will then engage in a canopy walk after the briefing. This activity takes approximately 2 hours and it gives rewarding experiences on the 70 meters high and 160 meters long suspended bridge. You will see a number of attractions while at the bridge including the Nyungwe forest. You will after head to the lodge after completing the activity. You will later be given dinner and you rest for the night.
Day 3 : Transfer to Bukavu in DR Congo
You will have breakfast at Nyungwe National Park at a lodge in the morning at your own leisure. A guide will pick you from the lodge at Nyungwe National Park after you have checked out. The guide will then transfer you to Congo. You will head to Congo via Cyangugu border and you will arrive at Bukavu town. The guide will lead you to a hotel in Bukavu Town where you will have lunch and the town is next to kahuzi biega. You will after lunch get a lodge where you will spend the night and when you get the lodge, you will relax abit after settling in as you wait for dinner meal. You will after dinner head to bed.

Day 4 : Lowland Gorilla trekking
In the morning at the lodge, you will have breakfast and then the guide will transfer you to kahuzi biega for briefing before you set off for a lowland gorilla trek. You will be given a guide to escort you as you head for your search of the gorillas. This trek will take you about 6 hours before you spot the gorillas depending on their location and you will also be able to see other wildlife species as you look for the gorillas. . You will be given some time to get to observe these gorillas after spotting them and you will be permitted to capture picture following specific rules. The guide will then transfer you to the lodge after having such a great experience. You will at the lodge have lunch and rest from the trek. In the late evening, you will be availed with dinner and you then go to your bed and sleep.
Day 5 : Transfer back to Kigali
After your breakfast at the lodge in Bukavu, you will check out and the guide will meet you and you prepare fir your trip back to Kigali. When you arrive in Kigali you will first head to a hotel and you have lunch. After having lunch, the guide will then take you to Kigali airport so that you do not miss your flight.
